Comme Nabokov l’a spécifié dans la préface de l’un de ses romans, « l’Orient tout entire » le laissait « suprêmement indifferent ». Cependant, s’il se tenait à l’écart de la fascination moderniste pour l’Orient, son œuvre suggère que son intérêt s’étendait loin dans les territoires asiatiques. Le présent article est consacré au Don, son dernier roman russe, qui comprend un récit vivant d’une expédition en Asie centrale. En se focalisant sur le contexte de la vie et l’art de l’auteur, il vise à développer une interprétation de la manière dont l’Orient est représenté dans le roman.
As Nabokov asserted in the preface to one of his novels, “the entire Orient” left him “supremely indifferent.” Aloof as he may have stayed from the modernist fascination with the Orient, his work suggests that the “east side of his consciousness” reached far into Asian territories. The present paper will focus on The Gift, his last novel in Russian, comprising a vivid account of a Central Asian expedition. Through the context of the author’s life and art, I aim to develop an interpretation of the ways in which the Orient is represented in the novel.
Как Набоков утверждaл в предисловии к одному из своих романов, «Восток целиком» оставлял его «в высшей степени безразличным». Развивавшееся в стороне от увлечения Востоком модернистов творчество Набокова позволяет тем не менее предположить, что «восток [его] сознания» связан с далëкими азиатскими территориями. В данной статье предлагается новый взгляд на последний роман писателя, «Дар», который включает в себя подробное описание экспедиции в центральную Азию. Статья анализирует связь между разными планами изображения Востока Набоковым и ставит вопрос об их единстве.
