La publication des Derniers Jours du pouvoir impérial a étonné certains critiques. Le poète Alexandre Blok avait écrit ce livre en 1917, après avoir assisté aux séances de la Commission extraordinaire chargée d’examiner les actions illégales des ministres du tsar récemment renversé. Le livre est un compte-rendu objectif, appuyé sur une importante documentation. Il semble n’avoir rien de commun avec une création poétique. Pourtant, quand on fait une comparaison avec le drame symboliste Le Roi sur la place, composé en 1906, on y découvre un réseau d’images poétiques qui ne peuvent pas ne pas frapper le lecteur par leur caractère proprement théâtral. L’expression « chute du roi » prend un sens très concret.
Critics were astonished by the publication of The Last Days of the Imperial Power, a book the poet Alexander Blok wrote in 1917. He had been appointed after the February Revolution as a stenograph to the Extraordinary Commission to investigate illegal actions of the ministers of the tsar. The book is an objective essay, based on many documents, and has apparently nothing to do with poetic creation. But, when compared to the symbolist drama The King on the Square (1906), it appears to be imbued with a real poetic imagery, whose scenic character cannot but strike every reader. The “fall of the king” becomes visible.
Публикация «Последних дней императорской власти» удивила некоторых критиков. Поэт Александр Блок написал эту книгу в 1917 году после посещения заседаний Чрезвычайной комиссии, расследовавшей незаконные действия царских министров, недавно низложенных. Книга представляет собой объективное изложение, опирающееся на серьёзную документальную основу. Она как будто не имеет ничего общего с поэтическим творчеством. Однако если её сравнить с символистской драмой «Король на площади», написанной в 1906 году, можно найти целый ряд поэтических образов, которые не могут не удивить читателя из-за своего откровенно театрального характера. А выражение «падение короля» принимает вполне конкретный смысл.
