No presente ensaio, estuda-se o método saramaguiano de interação com o texto bíblico à luz das estratégias de leitura e de suplementação características da literatura de tipo midráshico. A comparação incide sobre os processos de recriação de personagens, a transformação das “lacunas” do texto bíblico em oportunidades eisegéticas e a transferência de motivos entre relatos e personagens. O artigo visa contribuir para uma mais inteira inteligência da “mecânica” da revisitação saramaguiana do cânone bíblico. Il s’agit d’un véritable exercice de réinterprétation des récits sacrés qui remet en cause leurs postulats et déconstruit le monopole du sens. Saramago invite à relire le texte biblique en s’affranchissant des règles et des interdits imposés par le canon. Il laisse pour cela l’ironie mener l’effort de réécriture. Nous envisageons d’analyser ici la façon dont Saramago interagit avec le texte biblique, en s’appuyant sur des modes de lecture et de supplémentation caractéristiques de la littérature de type midrashique. L’analyse porte sur les processus de réélaboration des personnages, la transformation des « lacunes » du texte biblique en opportunités eisegétiques et le transfert de certains motifs entre récits et personnages. Cet article vise à contribuer à une compréhension plus complète de la « mécanique » de la revisitation du canon biblique par Saramago. The last novel José Saramago published in his lifetime, Cain recreates some of the myths of the Judeo-Christian cultural legacy and proposes a critical re-reading of the First Testament. As a reinterpretation of the sacred narratives, the novel aims to question their postulates and deconstruct the monopoly of meaning that controls access to these texts. Saramago summons the letter of the text and interprets it without the rules and injunctions imposed by the canon, offering irony the leading role in the process of rewriting the biblical story. This article studies Saramago’s mode of interaction with the biblical text in light of the reading and supplementation strategies that characterize Midrashic literature. The comparison focuses on the processes of recreating characters, the transformation of the “gaps” of the biblical text into eisegetic opportunities, and the transfer of motives between stories and characters.
