Résumés
Le présent article étudie la réévaluation du sens et de la valeur du pèlerinage russe en Terre sainte au XIXe siècle, époque où il connaît un essor spectaculaire, dû aussi bien à la facilité croissante du voyage en Palestine qu’au prestige du pèlerinage dans la culture traditionnelle russe. En même temps, certains représentants de l’élite culturelle depuis les années 1830 s’intéressent de près au pèlerinage et redécouvrent sa valeur esthétique et religieuse dans le contexte de retour à la foi orthodoxe. Le pèlerinage est aussi utilisé à des fins politiques et identitaires, aussi bien par les intellectuels que par l’État russe, qui cherche de plus en plus à encadrer la présence en Palestine des pèlerins du peuple. On peut donc parler d’une réinterprétation du sens du pèlerinage dans le contexte d’une société en voie de sécularisation. Bien que l’État et l’Église orthodoxe soutiennent activement le pèlerinage, par leurs actions visant à encadrer et réinterpréter l’expérience du pèlerin du peuple, ils contribuent à la sécularisation du pèlerinage par le biais de sa banalisation et de sa politisation progressive.
The article studies the reappraisal of the meaning of the pilgrimage in the Holy Land and its impact on this popular religious practice. In the nineteenth century, the number of Russian pilgrims in the Holy Land have increased dramatically because of the increasing facilities of travel in Palestine as well as of the enduring prestige of pilgrimage in the Russian traditional culture as an expression of an individual’ quest for salvation. At the same time, some representatives of the cultural elites display an increasing interest in the pilgrimage since the 1830’s and rediscover its aesthetic and religious significance within the context of a return to the Orthodox faith. The pilgrimage plays an increasing role as a factor of identity and self-perception, and becomes increasingly politicized as both the Russian State and the Orthodox intellectuals consider the pilgrim as a model representative of Russianness. It is therefore possible to view this process of reinterpretation of the meaning of pilgrimage as a reflection of a progressive secularization of Russian society. While the Russian state and the Orthodox church do the earnest to support the popular pilgrimage, their aims to structure and to reinterpret its meaning also contributes indirectly to its secularization, both through trivialization and an increasing politization.
Настоящая статья посвящена переоценке смысла и значимости русского паломничества в Святую землю в 19-ом веке, эпоху, когда оно было особенно распространено, благодаря с одной стороны, растущей доступности путешествия в Палестину, а с другой стороны, престижности паломничества согласно традициям русской культуры. В то же самое время некоторые представители культурной элиты, начиная с 1830 года, интересуются паломничеством и открывают для себя его эстетическую и религиозную ценность в контексте возврата к православной вере. Паломничество используется также в целях политических и для национальной идентификации как интеллигенцией, так и государством, которое ищет пути, чтобы направлять в нужное русло народных паломников в Палестине. Таким образом, можно говорить о новой интерпретации смысла паломничества в контексте общества, находящегося на пути к секуляризации. Хотя государство и православная церковь активно поддерживают паломничество, стараясь целенаправить опыт народного паломника, своими действиями они ведут к секуляризации паломничества посредством его превращения в нечто обыденное и к его постепенной политизации.
