    L'article retrace le destin étonnant du franc-maçon russe Iakov Ivanovitch de Saint-Glin (1726-1864), né à Moscou, fils d'un gentilhomme gascon mousquetaire du roi de France. Protégé de l'amiral A. G. Spiridov et du prince N. B. Repnine, il est initié dès 1793 à Revel. Reçu en 1809 au sein du Chapitre du Phénix, puis affilié à la loge Pierre à la Vérité, il est chargé par le ministre de la police de surveiller l'activité des loges. Alexandre Ier, qui lui fait toute confiance, lui demande de surveiller L'Astrée. Il joua un rôle de premier plan dans l'arrestation du comte Mikhaïl Speranski en mars 1812. C'est lui, en particulier, qui conduisit en exil le dignitaire déchu. Au terme de sa longue vie, l'ancien chef de la police secrète, au début des années soixante du XIXe siècle, était devenu une « relique vivante » du Siècle de Catherine.

    The article describes the amazing destiny of Russian freemason Yakov Ivanovich of Saint-Glin (1726-1864), born in Moscow, the son of a French nobleman. Protected by admiral A. G. Spiridov and Prince N. B. Repnin, he was initiated in Freemasonry as soon 1793 in Revel. Received in 1809 within the Chapter of the Phoenix, he was then affiliated with the lodge Peter to the Truth. He was instructed by the Minister of Police to keep a watch on masonic lodges. Emperor Alexander I totally trusted him. He asked him to keep a close eye on Astreya. Saint-Glin played a leading role in the arrest of Count Michael Speransky in March 1812. He, especially, led the dignitary in exile. At the end of his long life, in the early sixties of nineteenth Century, the former head of the Secret Police «had become a living relic of the Age of Catherine the Great.»
